I went with the canon 100mm macro. It's the only one in its focal length range that doesn't extend and its the sharpest lens I own. And it'll work on my 5D (when and if..).

I agree with JNunn.
The Canon 100mm macro is the one I went for, and its well worth its cost (to me). Oh and yes it works on all Canon EOS cameras :)

Instead of the 105 why not the Sigma 150? Very highly rated.

I've heard and seen nothing but wonderful things from the Sigma 105 EX, it was a serious contender for me but in the end I went with the Canon 100 F/2.8 macro. The biggest reason for me was internal focusing, silent AF (for non-macro work, closeups command MF for me), and the fact that it's a Canon for slightly more than the 3rd party. The build and image quality from the Sigma are just as good as the Canon.

As for the 60 EFS macro, you get less working distance and are locked into 1.6x crop cameras. Not a big deal for some, it's suppossed to be a tack sharp lens. I guess the question is how far away do you want to be from your subjects?

Well, IMHO, Neither. Go for the tamron 90mmSP Di. 2.8 Simply the sharpest macro made in its class.

Another vote for the Canon 100 f2.8. My 2nd choice would be the Tamron 90.

tamron 90mm macro for pure macro work, and if you manually focus.

canon ef 100mm macro for a lens that has more of a life outside macro. this means that because of the USM motor, the ef 100mm f/2.8 is also relatively more suited for 'normal' shooting. that said, the tamron would also foucs fast - but its always between the normal motors vs USM...
