Does Canon TCon II use special body cap?

I know this sounds trivial but I misplaced the body type cap that came with my Extender 1.4x II and it seems that the body cap that came with my 30D cap is too short and making contact with the circular extension that protrudes from the Extender. Is the cap for this side of the extender unique and not just a regular body cap?

I'm pretty sure I've swapped caps on my 1.4x II, but there could be a difference. If it helps, I think the one that Canon sells as a replacement fits everything.

That said, Canon has been making a big deal out of the anti-dust feature on the XTi, and mentions the old body cap as a source of dust. There could be a new replacement item coming into the pipeline.

Have Fun,

Rick

Yes, the cap is a little thicker than normal. New anti-static caps? What a great plan by Canon to sell us all new caps.

The standard caps will not fit the T-cons.

Both the 1.4 and 2x use the same cap, which differs from the standard camera body cap.
It has to be deeper to accomodate the protruding front elements of the T-cons.

The Cap you need is the Extender Cap E II (external link)

The normal body cap is R-F-3 Camera Cover (external link)

Of course, the Extender Cap E II (external link) will also fit your Camera body. But not vive versa.

that is really odd. I have switched these about for a long time now with no problems.

As has been noted the answer is yes. The reason is the end of the TC sticks out from the mount so the end cap needs to be deaper. The rear cap is a standard lens end cap.

That is unless you have the extended cap on both your extender and your body which I find bizarre.

As CDS quoted the extender cap will fit the camera but not the other way round.:p
