The key is to practice with the camera. Use the different modes and settings until you become comfortable with what they do and the impact they have on the photos you shoot. You'll throw away a lot of shots at first, but pretty soon your keeper ratio will increase and you'll be surprised at how simple everything has become.

Good shooting!

I went from a 300D to a 30D as well. I found the 30D with more features was much more intuative than the 300D. Loving this camera.

Your photographic ability increased? Man, I've heard some good things about the 30D, but that claim borders on magic. ;)

Well....he made a rather vague statement. So...maybe he just meant he's now able to use spot metering.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Yes, I suppose that's true. In fairness, Tareq's learning curve must have been mighty steep, what with him buying one of everything in the last few months (or so it seems). ;)

You don't have a gear list posted, so I'm wondering.... is this your first dSLR? I'm guessing not because of the beautiful lenses you purchased as well, but I just thought I would ask!

If it's not your first, what did you upgrade from?

Actually, it is my first. I started with range finders and light meters many years ago, switched to SLR film but then went through a lull during the digital revolution and just used point and shoot cameras up until now. I knew I needed a high resolution camera for an aerial photography business I hope to start soon, so I read a lot on this site and then borrowed a 20D just to try it out. I had even at least considered a higher resolution model, but then figured I should buy the lenses now and wait until I really needed the resolution, if I ever do, and upgrade later. (I think there might be a point where you can only reduce camera shake so much, and having more pixels isn't going to help.)

Although this is a very rough draft under construction, and I will need a real webmaster to design the site, here's (external link) the temporary web page we're working on now. The pictures we took of the Cub in flight and the boats on Lake Champlain were our first attempts at air to air and "air to boat" photos, so there is still a lot to learn, but it assured me that the 30D would certainly do the job for now...

Check out the bottom of the "Aircraft" (external link) page link. :)

30D body is different than XT, look like more pro. faster (5fps vs. 3fps), spot metering, ISO increaments, 2.5" LCD, all these make photography easier (not necesary better) so that i can do photography much faster and better on 30D rather than XT, or am i wrong?

I just got my 30D two days ago, I switched from a Nikon D200 to Canon, so far I'm finding the 30D to be a pretty sweet camera,at the time I only have one lens, the 17-85 IS. It is a fairly simple camera to operate. I just love the qaulity of the high ISO shots.

Oh my god the D200 starts to lose at 400 and above, when I test shot the 30D I didn't even know the camera was set at 1600 until the salesman ask how I liked the shot at 1600. There is no way the D200 can keep up

I agree. I've shifted from the Rebel XT to the 30D about two months ago... some functions are the same, some not. With any shift, I'm sure there's a learning curve. Each time I go out, I try to focus on some new feature to see if I like it or not. While the manuals are VERY helpful, sometimes the only way to learn is to just go out and play with the camera. Remember: Have fun!

Yeah there's a lot to it but for the most part once you get your preferences set up (custom functions, parameters, etc) it's not too bad. I like mine a whole lot more than my XT, and I was an avid defender of the XT...

I had a XT, returend it, and hoping to get a 30D now. I wasn't overally impressed by what you could change setting wise with the XT (white balance, iso, shutter speed, aperture, flash, etc, seemed like a few of the only thing along with some parameters.)

Does the 30D have many more adjustable settings compared to the XT?
