Well I got my first post kit lens yesterday (50mm 1.8) and was loving it. As soon as I got to my car I put it on the camera and started taking shots. but today I decided to switch back to my kit and noticed something in the lens. Obviously I'll take it back today, but how'd it get in there? is this something I could have done without realising?

No, you should not be able to get a hair or fibre (?) into your lens (unless you dismantled it and put it back together)

Best regards,
Andy

Well, I got my replacement. but I wish i'd kept the one with fibre in it, the replacement doesn't seem as sharp, is this possible? are they not all made to one spec?

They should all be the same. If not, take that one back as well. Get one you are happy with.
