I'll be flying tomorrow with a tripod for the first time. I've got the Dynatran carbon fiber version, model 94 with a ball head. Can I carry this on or should I put it in it's box and check it?

I haven't tried to do it yet, but that's what I've heard... Steve

I know for a fact that tripods are not allowed though some people do get them through. The contention is that the legs can be removed and used as a weapon. Needless to say that when I arrived at my destination the head of the tripod was broken and I had to replace it. Wasn't impressed travelled 3000km to take some pictures in BC and no tripod. Rene S

Just because you happened to get through security with it you are not home free. Anyone right up to the flight attendant on board can and will ask you to check anything that they deem unfit. There isn't much of an appeal process and any vigorous appealing might have you deplaned as well. My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.
