Looks like a 'lens-baby' ? - or did you do the blurred vignette in PS?

You took the words right out of my mouth! Just read a big article in Photography Monthly on these Holga's- apparently they're flying off the shelves. Might just try one out one day for fun. Anyone here every used one?

That is what I would like to know also. As for the picture, I like what you did with it.

There was a lot of coverage in Photography Monthly (or was it Practical Photography) recently. It's a Chinese "toy" camera that many people have fallen in love with. They are on ebay for around $30 (http://cgi.ebay.ca …Z710QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) (external link). As one writer put it- every photograph from a Holga camera is like a fingerprint. Generally speaking they are pin sharp at the center and have a blurred effect as you move towards the edges. I've been debating getting one just for kicks (I've spent more money on crazier things!!!!)

You'll find tons of info on the web. Here's a small exerpt from the website: http://www.apogeephoto.com …1/plastic_fantastic.shtml (external link)

Specs:
* Takes sixteen 6x4.5 or twelve 6x6 square format images (645 insert included)
* Shutter: 1/100 sec shutter speed (known to be up to 1/250)
* Apertures: f8 and f11 (subject to modification)
* Hot Shoe for electronic flash (sync’s on all available speeds)
* Lens: single element 60mm f8 wide-angle lens (no coatings)
* Construction: mostly plastic--including the lens
* Power: no batteries needed (finger-powered shutter)
* Minimum focusing distance: three feet (one meter)
* Multiple exposure possible (intentional and unintentional)
* Zone focusing: no focus indication in finder at all

Plastic Fantastic!
An Overview of the Holga camera
by Chris Groenhout

What, exactly, is a Holga?

Put simply, a Holga is a twenty-dollar, medium-format plastic camera. The characteristics that make it special are the same things that would make any other camera a “lemon”--light fall-off, lack of sharpness, distortion, accidental double exposure, flare, or any combination of the above. These “problems” are precisely why many Holga users own a handful of the cameras-- one for every special effect.

Not only is the Holga a medium-format camera, but it’s also capable of shooting both 6 x 4.5cm and 6 x 6cm formats (with the removal of an internal plastic mask). It has a pretty basic square format viewfinder, so you’ll have to guess when you’re shooting 645 format (although its general lack of accuracy makes 6 x 6 just as tricky). The best bet is to get in close and fill the frame!

There’s one shutter speed to choose from--allegedly 1/100th second. This, coupled with the f8 lens, means shooting in bright sunlight is your best option (at least with 100 ISO film). I’d recommend using 400 ISO B&W or color negative film to give you not only flexibility in low light but also greater exposure latitude for better results. Luckily, there’s an f11 setting for shooting fast film in bright conditions.
