Hi,

Is it possible to tape the pins of a canon 2.0 II converter and
which ones should be taped?

Just like to try AF on a 350d+400DO..

Thanks!

Tried that...

But the camera is trying desperatly to AF,but just doesn't focus...-?

Maybe it's different for a 2.0x converter??

Could be.

Does it TRY to focus or doesn't it DO anything?

If it TRIES to focus, it's useless, as my ex-70-300 IS USM tried to focus with a Kenko 1.4x @ 300mm, and it didn't find the focus.

I guess MF is what you have to do. :)

Yes probably.

400 DO with 2x Extender doesn't sound to me a sharp lens. :-P

I owned the 400 DO at one point in time and tried it with the both the 1.4 and 2.0 converters on the 1DMKII, I didn't have my 1Ds at that time. The lens by itself wasn't bad but I felt it certainly didn't justify the price of the lens. Put the converters on it and it was not great at all. In fact this is the only lens that I have owned that I have sold. If you could stay at f/8 or above it was fine but below that it just wasn't where I thought it should be. The shots on naturescapes are good and perhaps it is the fact that they are taken on the 1DsMKII tht make the difference.

I never did try taping the pins myself as I just didn't want to risk damage (it is not recommended by Canon) but I did shoot with a partner that did it regularly on the 100-400 and he had great sucess.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Hi Sheldon,

Thanks for your replie!
I have the DO-lens only a few weeks now,and I'm kinda happy
with it (especially the weight;) )
I decided to give this lens a chance,in 1 year from now I will know
if I will change it for the 500is...
So I will try to shoot some pics only f8 and higher and see if
it improves things...

Ron

ps Must say: Since I changed from 350d to 30d that pics are
a lot sharper and more detail??
