Sounds from that that you may need to have lens calibrated.

I spoke to Sigma Uk today and they say I should test the lens on another camera, but I don't have one, can I take it to a shop to test it?

The also said I would need a stamped warrenty card and receipt from the shop, but I got the lens from onestop-digital and they never stamped the card or gave me a receipt, I did pay with pay pal do you think that will do or the email I got from them when I bought it.

I have also emailed onestop to see if they will exchange it.

I'm really stressed about this now

Onestop Sigma's have International warranty according to their web site. You have the Paypal receipt. I would send to Sigma if there is a problem as much less hassle, faster and cheaper than sending to Onestop and you get a lens back that has individual calibration, so you know it meets specification. I have never heard of this lens having any problems at all. Seems you may have been very unlucky.

I have just got an email from onestop and they wont swap it anyway, he attached a receipt but I still don't have a stamped warrenty card. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to speak to sigma again to see if an unstamped one will do.

Do you think jessops will let me try the lens on a camera, if I say i wont to upgrade the camera.

Boswell,

Pity your not in my neck of the woods or you could have tested it on mine.

Hope you get this sorted as it is a lens I have been drawn to and one stop's prices seem quite keen.

Keep us posted

Best regards.

Rob

just spoke to Jessops and they said I could bring in the lens and a card and try it on the 5D so I can get a feel for it and see the difference. I will do this tomorrow night.

Thanks for your help guys

Nice ... watch you don't walk out with the 5D and a big hole in your pocket ;-)a

Personally, I'd send the lens to Sigma and enclose all the stuff you got with it and a copy of the receipt too, forget the card, assuming the problem turns out to be the lens and not the body. I have never received one of those cards filled in for any lens I have bought anywhere, even Jessops and other UK retailers.

100-300 is a great lens...I love it.

That being said..I recently (as in last week) upgraded to a 70-200 2.8 L and while I haven't been able to test it fully, I can say at least one thing for certain.

The sigma case is SO much better than the chintzy POS case supplied with the L lens. The sigma case has better padding, a better handle and a THICK rubber cap on the lid which keeps the lens from moving in any direction in the case by enveloping the back lens cover.

Sigma wont accept the lens without the stamped warranty card,so i will have to send the card back to onestop who will stamp it. Do you think if I email them a copy of the card and ask them to stamp that and email it back as they only want a copy of it, or would that be illigal, even though I have bought it from them.

Mine is stellar at f8 and not bad at f4! This is a cracking lens and is ok to handhold if you are not as old as condyk (;)) Also works great with 1.4. If you have concerns get it calibrated before selling!!!!

checkout the wildlife pics on my gallery for examples.

well I tried it on a 5D at jessops and this is a crop of the center bit, light wasnt great so ISO is 400 and 1/320 F4.5. Still it is not as sharp as it should be.

I have my lens back and I am not impressed, there is an improvement but not by much. I have taken test shots of text in exactly the same conditions at 300mm in RAW and in JPG only changing the ISO.

At F4 it is very soft and out of focus, at F9 its sharp and at F11 its very sharp, is this how the lens should be? could it be the camera. The JPG are much darker than raw, and there is an improvement if I slide the shadow bar to the right when in raw, but there is a gulf in quality between F4 and F9, F11.

If Sigma cant get it right am I within my rights to receive a new lens?

thanks

Mike
