how heavy is it?

Do you like it?

Would you suggest I purchase it?

Yes

Yes

Yes

-- okay, serious time now...

It is pretty heavy - I would say a good 6-7lbs with the ballhead. It is sturdy and solid, but heavy... I hiked 3-4 miles with it and didn't have too much of an issue.... depending on what you plan to use it for it might not be THAT bad in weight.

I like it a lot. Going from a cheap $40 Velbon to the Manfrotto was night and day. I got it because my monopod was a manfrotto and I wanted to swap cameras and lenses from my tripod to the monopod and back.

The 488RC2 is MUCH better than the 486. Not only does it hold more weight, it has separate pan controls from the ball control... very nice for panning around for landscapes.

My one complaint would be the center column... to make it horizontal you have to unscrew the ballhead, pull the column out, place the ballhead back on, etc... too much work for one or two shots.

They do have a new tripod, 190x or something like that -- can switch from vertical to horizontal column in a jiffy- -- looks really cool.

All in all, I am glad with my purchase. If I ever become a pro and am hiking 20 miles to get a shot, I will spend the $600+ on a super-strong, but lightweight tripod -- in the meantime, this works very well.

thanks Scott! I have no pressing need (other than fireworks) for a tripod. That particular combo can be mine for 180 bux and local pick up so it is tempting for those times when I do actually need/want one. I don't think I would hike with it.

That is a REALLY good price - and for fireworks the 486 would work well.

Hmm... I have looked at those before. Never really got the hang of it.

I tried the Wacom LCD monitor w/tablet built-in AWESOME!! I could so use that for Photoshop... too bad it is $2K+ :-(

Denver (mostly north of me) got hit by a bunch of micro bursts today. Lots of fallen trees. In one parking lot, a bunch of car windows broken and the clinic where Magilla had his knee surgery had it's roof blown off!! http://www.9news.com …%202007/Default.aspx?N=55 (external link)

Kinda in Jack's part of town.... Jack?

We had some strong winds up my way, but no damage in my immediate area, that I know of. I did see the trees that fell across town, that's a shame. One of them fell on the Mailman's van. Lucky he wasn't in there.

Jack

My eyes see well enough, and the camera is capable enough, now if they would just work together.

What's a matter out there? Everyone have a real life to attend to of sumpin?

I was out enjoying a great evening in the back yard. Did some yard work, then had a beer while playing cards with the wifey. Nice relaxing evening.

I though I would show you the uglier black squirrel that came along and chased away the other one while I was last posting. He is a nasty little bugger.

Sorry. We've been doing some major cleaning/organizing. Wade finally got someone to help him move my cabinet into the workroom, so I've been spending the last 3 hours cleaning it, and moving all my stuff into it.

I'm exhausted. I need a G&T.

We have a bunch around here.

Must have been a night for domestic duties, I put in 3 hours of it too. Setting up a new freezer and trimming some trees. Though work!! ;)
It was actually great doing some work today where I felt I accomplished something. A bunch of nuisance stuff at worke today kept me from what I planned to do, and I am already so far behind.
