Becky I am sooooo glad that Aiden's tests came back normal! Out of curiosity, was he taking any kind of cold medication at the time? I ask because we had a similar experience with Frankie when she was 4/5. The doctor told us that there had been some other cases of seizure related to some Vicks cough syrups for children. She has never had a seizure since (she is 14) and needless to say, Vicks products are no longer in the house.

Hmm.. Just back from camera club. A guy called Dickie Duckett (http://www.dickieduckett.com/ (external link)) gave a slide show and talk about birds in the Falkland Islands. Truely incredibly sharp shots. I'm suitably embarressed by any of my attempts.

Interestingly, he shoots most of his work at 1/250 and over and invariably at ISO400. He also passed comment on the 100-400 lens he had at the time, said that it's not so good at fast focussing (like on birds in flight).

Just glad I don't take many shots of birds in flight then!!

Why would a grown man want to be called Dickie?

Pete, keep in mind, that no matter how good you get (and you are pretty dang good right now!) there will always ALWAYS be someone out there better than you. ALWAYS. You can't let it discourage you or embarrass you, or make you belittle yourself.
You can learn from it, yes, but never put yourself down because of it. I will have no more of it. *insert hands-on-the-hips-with-a-stern-motherly-look here*

Why would a grown man want to be called Dickie?

Why, indeed.
My 12 year old son had a HUGE laugh at my expense when I told him to get a belt because I didn't want his Dickie's (external link) sagging.

I know, I am fortunately called by my middle name, my first being Richard. I am not fond of any of the nicknames for Richard, Dick, Rick Ricky, Dickey, etc. I have a good friend who loves to call me Dickie Jim, but I think it is just 'cause she likes the spankings she gets.

I hereby vote you to be "Dickie Jim"
and even if you don't get the official title, you will always and forever more be Dickie Jim to us!

Don't know, will relay this to my son and also whether or not Marge was taking anything that could have affected him through nursing. They need to think of all these things and ask when they see their family doctor next week.

I am not fond of any of the nicknames for Richard, Dick, Rick Ricky, Dickey, etc.

One of my brothers is a Richard, he did settle with Ric (this spelling) though often we call him Rich, not sure how that came about unless it is because we sometimes call younger brother, Randy...Ranch.

OK just so you know it starts with my parents...Robert, Rosemary, Rodney, Richard, Rebecca and Randall....ready for the last name....Rice. Only my nickname breaks the R rule and I got to go to N when I got married.:D

We would laugh at my grandfather when ever he was calling one of the boys it came out:

"Ric, Randy, Randy, Ric, uh...ROD!", but; we think he cursed us for laughing, on account we all do the same thing now ourselves.

Show us the snakeskin!!!

Becky, lots of R's there for sure, our family name traditions is James. There is a James on my dad's side of the family for at least the 5 generations that I know of starting with my great-grandfather.

Walter Earl James Bennett (Wally)
John James Clark Bennett (Clark)
Donald James Bennett (Don)
Richard James Bennett (Jim)
Ethan James Bennett (Ethan)

Our family naming tradition puts family (or dear friends) names as middle names. My middle name is Evans, my uncle's names. My sister's middle name is Davis, my Mom's maiden name. My Mom's middle name is Stott, her Mom's maiden name. My brother's middle name is Burt, the last name of the minister who married my folks (whose father married my grandparents)...

This talk of family trees and Cat's "Through the hands of time" photograph got me thinkin' (yes that can still happen for me).

A photo of sand sifting from one had to another, to another and then to another, with all 3 hands three different generations. I think I might try to do that with my dad, me and my son.

My first son's middle name is my Grandmother's maiden name. My second son got a family FIRST name because all the other last names were too "old Europe" to pronounce! lol
