A photo of sand sifting from one had to another, to another and then to another, with all 3 hands three different generations. I think I might try to do that with my dad, me and my son.

Cool idea Jim!

Ok, I don't know why this popped in my head, but; now I can't get rid of it and I don't remember the whole thing. Even tried Googling it but can't find it. Do any of you know this poem, it is rather long and I want to get a full copy of it, here is what I do remember.

I have a little Budgie
He is my very Pal
I take him for walks in Brittan
I hope I always shall

More verses I can't remember

Some people don't like Budgies
They're little yellow brats
They something, something, something
Or feed them to their cats

LOL!

Sorry Becky. Can't help you with this one. My Mom and sister are great for remembering all sorts of odds and ends.... but I don't think this one was ever in our repertoire.

LOL, Becky, glad to see someone else on here dwells on silly things that run rampant through their mind. ;)

That one does not ring a bell, I was able to help with the Pelican rhyme, and lordy knows my Dad has tons more implanted in my brain.

Here's one that pops into my head all the time. Don't ask why, you really wouldn't want to go there. ;)

I had a little tea party
This afternoon at three
'Twas very small
Three guest in all
Just I, myself and me.

Myself ate all the sandwiches
While I drank up the tea
'Twas also I who ate the pie
And passed the cake to me.

That one is cute, Jim.

Here's a favorite of mine:

Sisters and brothers I have none
but this man's father is my father's son.

What is the relationship?

Doesn't ring a bell for me either Becky, sorry.

In my family everyone has the same name, a weird greek tradition of giving the first born the grandfathers name on the fathers side (all of the sons do this) so the only way to tell the difference is either by their middle name or by trade. For us the name Elias is all over, all 3 of my brothers have it as their middle name, my sons legal ame is John Elias, my nephew is Joseph Elias my fathers name is Elias...and all of our generation have at least 3-5 cousins who have identical names as ours. It gets real confusing, I have one cousin we call "Elias the baker" and another who is "Elias the doctor" because otherwise you have no idea which Elias they might be referring to!

Sorry, I can't help you with remembering the rest, but I do have to wonder one thing... How do you take a budgie for a walk? ???

Jim, that sounds like a neat idea! Be sure and share whatever you come up with .

Becky... ROFL! I haven't heard that one, but the 'something something something feed them to their cats' has me cracking up.

When I worked at Rockford College there was a program where several Icelantic students were studying on campus. Tradition is to use their fathers name and then son or dottier (daughter) for their last name. This means brothers and sisters have different last names, i.e. Stephensson and Stephensdottier.

So.... the "this man" is the son of the narrator?

Isn't that where all the last names that end in "son" come from?

That's it Crissa, thanks. I did a copy, paste, and saved it in Word...you out Googled me.

Yes, Beth...I have had to visuals trying to get my brother's to understand that one.

You could be correct on the last name of "son" it is very common in Scandinavian names. Until we had the students I didn't know about the "dottier", found it very interesting.
