You could be correct on the last name of "son" it is very common in Scandinavian names. Until we had the students I didn't know about the "dottier", found it very interesting.

I hadn't heard the "dottier" side of it before either. My Dad's Mom was a Peterson from Sweden. The tradition must have ended with that generation. At least over here.

Becky, I'm doing collages for some members of my family for Christmas, and I remember one that you posted (I think it was you) a while back that I would love to try, but I can't find it.
It was a child's face, but some of it was B&W, some color, and the pieces were seperated into their own layers. Do you know what one I'm talking about?

Yes I do, I just took it out of my gallery the other day. Give me few minutes to reload it and I'll post it here.

I'm on a 'collage' kick lately, and I would like to try yours.

Just finished this one for my Dad...these are all old pics he got from his Aunt of he and his brothers. He is giving it to his brother for Christmas.

But I really want to try one like you did, Becky.

Oh, I like it. Have you checked out the collages in this thread?

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=247434

This idea came off the Paint Shop X logo, they did some selective coloring in the B&W portion that you might want to try:

I'm liking the ideas in Flywing's Photos and Words thread too.

Thanks for the link to the other thread, I hadn't seen that one.

Flywings Photos and Words

Tips...I had problems working with duplicate layers so I opened up a blank canvas and then in a separate window the picture. Did the cropping and boarders then copied and pasted as a layer on the blank canvas.

Went back to the picture window, hit the undo button, just was quicker for me than closing and reopening, did my next crop etc. Copied and pasted as a new layer, then to line it up I dropped down the opacity so I could see the bottom picture and line it up that way.

After all the layers were lined up I did the drop shadows using the same setting on each layer so the looked like they were receiving the light source. Then flattened, resized, and sharpened.

Perfect. Thank you.
I have a great pic of my nephew, and I wanted to try this.

I was looking through the folder on my web site host where I've kept the photos I've posted here over the past three or four years, trying to find one for the current TPBM request (I had one in mind, found it, then decided I'd be too much of a sarcastic jerk to actually post it for that request), but what a walk down memory lane! :D

I'd forgotten about this one... A friend of mine put Ashley in the famous painting...

Unfortunately, he didn't save it in a larger size, so that's all I have...

But now you have me intrigued... what photo were you going to post for the request? ;)
Lets se.... memory lane.... back when you were timid and green?

My "studio lights" consist of just two flash units. And, the only picture I could think of that included both also include my entire EOS kit (minus the 100mm macro and 10-22 which I have acquired since then). It just seemed too sarcastic or maybe bragging to post that image again.

It was from an old "Show your EOS" thread from 2004. Those threads are all in the recycle bin, but I'd give anything for moderator/administrator access here just to read through them all again.

Pete, keep in mind, that no matter how good you get (and you are pretty dang good right now!) there will always ALWAYS be someone out there better than you. ALWAYS. You can't let it discourage you or embarrass you, or make you belittle yourself.
You can learn from it, yes, but never put yourself down because of it. I will have no more of it. *insert hands-on-the-hips-with-a-stern-motherly-look here*

Yeah, what she said!

Oh sheesh.... I do that, and my kids' names aren't even remotely close. Though my daughter answers to JosTevjoMarian.

I even manage to get my animals in the mix  My kids learned by my tone which 'you know who you are' I was referring to

This talk of family trees and Cat's "Through the hands of time" photograph got me thinkin' (yes that can still happen for me).

A photo of sand sifting from one had to another, to another and then to another, with all 3 hands three different generations. I think I might try to do that with my dad, me and my son.

Ooooh! Lovely idea!

Evening all :D I have giggled my way through the last couple pages, thanks. And enjoyed the history of surnames as well. Interesting stuff there.
