Just wondering.. Any merit in this? I kind of like it in an understated way...

Nice one Pete but I feel there is too much foreground. I like the trees, and the colors are uniform and uncommon which adds interest for me. It has a sort of surreal feel for some reason. If you have enough resolution try a different crop. Thumbs up.

Mark, You sound just like a contest judge.

There is an intrique to the picture, Pete, I think it is the various shaped trees.

Just popping in for a second...I read everything, and I was going to reply, but we are in the 'middle' of a game of Risk, and I'm being summoned back to the battle front.
We've been playing for about 4 hours.

I'll be back in a bit. Maybe

Beth: great shots! That is a LOT of snow. Wow.

Pete: glad to have you back. We missed you. Looks like a great book. Share the knowledge. ;)
I like your shot, though I agree that it may have a bit too much foreground. I love the colors.
Ditto the question: Did Ali like her necklace? Well...we know she liked it. :D We want to know HOW much she liked it. ;)

Crissa: I don't know anything about RAW in CS2 yet. Sorry, Im no help.

So, we finished the game. Almost 5 solid hours.

I've been absent due to illness and to an earthquake that broke an undersea communications cable and left a lot of Asia with slow to non-existent internet. After a very unpleasant trip to the hospital yesterday, I am on the mend and I think the internet is back somewhat. :D

Pete - I like the calm in that image, but would probably crop it after the little bush next to the large tree.

OMG, Athena!
I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend.... why did you have to go to the hospital? Was it in relation to the earthquake or the illness?

How was your Christmas? I hope you weren't ill over the holidays.

Mark, You sound just like a contest judge.

There is an intrique to the picture, Pete, I think it is the various shaped trees.

That was sort of the idea and why I made the comment about putting my 'club head' on. The club I used to go to, the pictures were critiqued by the members on normal print or slide nights (you just didn't crit your own if it came up on your turn). It took me a while to comment properly when I joined here - I started off quite harsh because of the club experience.

I think you're right about the shape of the trees giving the intrigue.

Don't read too much into my 'club' critque folks. I like the shot as presented (but see below) but club type comments tend to follow the 'rules' too slavishly - hence why I seperated them and reinforced my 'actual' comments.

So, we finished the game. Almost 5 solid hours.

Wow - Athena - So glad you are on the mend. It seems there were a few of us poorly recently but yours does sound as if it was bad! And an earthquake too! Keep us up to date - my prayers are with you.

I think your comment on Pete's image is spot on. It would concentrate the eye on the area with the interesting tree shapes.

Oh well. Got to go and have a windscreen ( car windshield for leftpondians) replaced now. Hit by a stone and chipped on the way to work the other day and it's started to crack :(

Yeah, I remember playing Risk back in my school days. I wasn't terribly good at it back home - I wasn't very well known for my trustworthy alliances.

And thanks, Mark for your club-head - not that I'd enter that shot for any competion of course. Hope you get your windscreen sorted out easily - mine's one with heating elements in it, so it would be pretty expensive to sort out. Insurance is nice that way.

I've done a re-treatment of that shot. Used curves to darken the sky a little and put some contrast into the foreground (and given you more of it). I like the way the wide angle seems to push everything onto the horizon.

Opps - I should have been clearer - the earthquake that broke the undersea communications cables was off the Taiwan coast. We haven't had another here. And I'm definitely on the mend. :)

Pete - I like the addition of the foreground, in particular because of it's perspective (did you get your knees wet?) But I still find little of visual interest beyond the bush next to the big tree. ;)

What the hell did I do to deserve this attack on my web site?!? I haven't been able to access my site via the web, FTP or even retrieve my email for two DAYS now!
(DUPLICATE IMAGE)

And my host doesn't seem to care. No updates, unless I beg, and then it's just "it's still under attack". But... WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT?!? ???

I switched to BlueHost because their customer support was so highly recommended by someone I used to, but most certainly no longer trust. After two months of moving in, installing software and creating galleries, I think I'm going to have to do it all over again. This is one very sad, depressed banana...

Lonnie,

I had a similaer experience with Lycos. I was hacked and phished and I had to prove that I had not sent out over half a million e-mails soliciting details about peoples Royal Saudi Bank accounts !!!! It was nearly a month before it was sorted and a week after that I had secured my own web serever and kissed them goodby. Good luck with geting things sorted and if I can be of any help let me know.
