Pete you are close just wrong, lol. One shot is as Pete said, as long as the button is halfway pressed the camera will retain focus at the distance which it focused at when you depressed the button. Al focus is same as one shot but if it senses the subject moving it acts like Al servo. Al servo constantly focuses with the subject movement(or cameras) as long as the button is depressed. I don't use my home printers for photos anymore at all....except proofing. The quality is too bad. Any photos I need printed go to WalMart (small jobs) or my local photo lab. I tried servo at one time but it didn't work for me. If you go to the basic side of the dial and set it for sports it will default to servo. It is not the easiest setting sometimes but it can be very handy. Take for example Eli is riding toward you on a bicycle or playing soccer and running toward you. To focus on that shot in one shot especially with a wide aperture limiting your DOF you would have to point the camera and hit the button fast. There would still be a lag between the auto focus and the shutter that could cause your shot to be OOF. With servo you could place whichever auto focus point you have chosen on him depress the button half way ans the camera would focus as he came to you. This allows you to compose and open the shutter with no lag. It also allows a better shutter release because you are not slapping the button real quick when you see your shot. I might clone out the bracelet it draws the eye and competes with her rosy cheeks in an otherwise pretty color muted shot. Do whats right HERE

I mean folks move, hands shake, kids fidget. Is it OK to leave it on this setting? I'm bad enough with forgetting to change my ISO, changing focus too? ugh. Crissa

Zane explained the first part to you, as for me, generally I use one shot, but; for sport shots, dance recitals, anything with high amounts of action I use AIServo. Custom function 4 is also set so the * is used for focus, much easier to keep it depressed so the servo works properly and not accidently trip the shutter. BeckyWomen and Cats will do as they please. Men and dogs had better get used to it. ~ Robert Heinlein; Procrastinate now! Don't put it off.. ~Cat (CFPackerfan)

Only problem I see with this is... say you want point A to be in focus, but you want it in the right side of your frame. With one shot, you would half-shutter, recompose and shoot. I guess you could accomplish this with aiservo, but you'd have to change the focus point. Beth

Is the * button in the same place on the 30D and the 350D? Crissa
