* is in the same place on both camera bodies. It is used only for focusing with CF 4. The shutter button continues to work everything else. 1/2 way down to meter or check exposure and all the way to trip the shutter. It take a few tries to get use to using the * but, once I used it for my nephew's football game, I was hooked.

I got my Elan 7E today. (I actually chased down the UPS guy so I could get it before his normal delivery time in my area, LOL.... don't worry, he knows me, and it's not unusual. He knows when I'm expecting a package that I can be quite, um...persistant, LOL)

Anywho....

I LOVE it!! I've been playing around with it all afternoon, and I really really like it. It is built SO much better than the little cheapo Rebel K2 I bought when my classes started last year.
AND... the wireless remote and cable release that I got for my Rebel XT work for the Elan *doin the happy dance*.

The seller included an external flash (quantaray..heard of it?) that I have to learn how to use. He did include a booklet (thank goodness) but the settings are so different from the Canon Speedlites.

I'm in love. :D

He sent me a ton of film, too, but it is all hand-rolled, in nondescript canisters. LOL. So I have no idea if it is black and white or color, what speed, how old it is.... it will be fun to develop those.

so Zane why shouldn't someone use aiservo all the time? I mean folks move, hands shake, kids fidget. Is it OK to leave it on this setting? I'm bad enough with forgetting to change my ISO, changing focus too? ugh.

See Beth's quote below. You would do better to leave it on ai focus as this would let you focus and recompose but if the kid ran toword you it would begin to refocus. Servo is really only a sports or action setting.

Only problem I see with this is... say you want point A to be in focus, but you want it in the right side of your frame. With one shot, you would half-shutter, recompose and shoot. I guess you could accomplish this with aiservo, but you'd have to change the focus point.

I also must say that my head is spinning just a bit with the info from the above discussion regarding focus/one shot/servo

Mine too. I usually just leave it on One Shot. But I would love to learn how to use the others properly.

I also have a habit (bad one?) of never changing my metering options.
I always leave it on evaluative.
I think one time I switched it to spot metering for a backlit situation, then forgot to change it back. I had a heck of a time till I switched it back, LOL.

You noticed, eh? I kept it in the freezer just a tad too long for the second shoot. The first shots he was chilled just right, then decided to walk away before I was done.

ROFL!

Mmm-hmmm. Ditto.
One of these days I am going to instinctively know which settings I need for each and every photo I shoot.

*and then she woke up* LOL!

Its late and I'm silly, my kid goes to a co-oping school where the parents are in the classrooms as helpers. I spent the afternoon with them, then brought one home for a play date that went from 3:00-6:45 then my kid pissed and moaned about going to sleep and fell asleep practically mid-sentence on the couch!
