Sorry your little guy has a bug Athena:(

thanks Zane - I can see an improvement in him just through the course of today. :) He's talking to me whenever he is awake and yesterday he was just silent.

I don't mind at all. They let me baby them. And I don't get that very much anymore.
How is your view of me now? LOL

Ah - Cat. You're just a big sweetie who wants to love on her kids. :D It's not your fault they only allow it when they're sick. ;)

Cat, your chipmunk is a squirrel... I don't know exactly what kind (too lazy to look it up right now), but here's how you can tell the difference. Chipmunks have a line that bisects the eye.

[Edumacation mode off]

I was curious about that too, he sure didn't look like the chipmunks up here. :)

Sorry, but he ain't... ;)

In fact, with this new picture, I can tell it's a Antelope White-tailed Squirrel.

Now I learned something new today and it is only 4:30. I haven't seen that type of squirrel around here though.

The White-tailed's are only found in the desert. The tail is white on the underside, and they hold it against their backs kind of like an umbrella, to reflect the sunlight and shade their body to keep cool.

I got a few great shots of a White-tailed Antelope Squirrel a couple years ago in Calico. Now that I think of those, I probably should have submitted one for the book...

That is a good reason I haven't seen one then. It is neat how animals adapt to their surroundings.

I never got anything submitted for the book. I took a look at some of the great submissions and decided not to waste my time. I think I will try and find the time to prepare and learn so I might be able to contribute to the second edition. ;)

Well, off to the gym now to try to regain that youthful stature...:p

Well, great, I've already "learned my something new" for the day...NOW what I'm going to do with the rest of the day?:D ;)

Seriously that is very interesting tidbit...I like knowing these kinds of little things. Still wondering if they are rodents, however. Do their teeth continue to grow? Isn't that a rattish characteristic?

That I don't know off-hand. I'll look it up in my book when I get home.

Edit: I just Googled, and according to this site (external link), it is a rodent.

Thanks for the link, Lonnie. Now I'm even smarter. ;) Funny, though, in all the breakdown of their class, family, etc. naming, not once did they mention "Tree Shark", go figure.

Due to their ability to adapt to their ever changing environments, critters like cockroaches and rats (rodents) may very well be the final survivors of this planet. Makes you want to give them more respect, eh?

Only the good die young

Pete, what's the story here? A public figure? I don't remember hearing about anyone.

On another note, how sad to hear this morning that they had to euthanize Barbaro. He had such an amazing win in the Derby, I really thought we might see another Triple Crown last year.

Becky, I posted the story about that in the Nifty thread. Basically, last week, a 17 year old boy was late for a train, so instead of taking the pedestrian bridge, he decided to jump over the level crossing barriers and make a run for it. He didn't make it. It was fairly late, so it's assumed that he'd been drinking and had just left the pub opposite the station.

Nope, maybe later. I'm still downloading the ones from gymnastics class yesterday. Man, those kids are hard to get in a frame!
