Hi there,

today I did a trial run of my Dads portrait, we had a great deal of fun, chatting, laughing and talking footy (my team one there first final last night, Aussie Rules).

Here is my pick of the dozen shots I took, some PP but I am really not sure how or what I need to learn to PP a black and white image.

Comments and Critacism most welcome good or bad.

Regards Darren

Exif: 1/25sec, F1.8, ISO-100, Av mode, using my Nifty Fifty

I might clone out that little bit of, well, not sure what it is, in the right corner of the image. Other than that, it's perfect as-is.
Thank you for sharing.

that's terrific Darren!

Not only is is a great shot, but the B&W conversion is awesome too! You might try burning in the beard a bit so that it's a little darker...but that is such a minor critique...this is a fabulous portrait!

(edit) one other thing, don't be afraid to bump up your iso a bit...this image looks nice, but I suspect with that shutter speed you had some blurry shots. You would have been around 1/200s if you were at iso 800...a much easier SS to manage.

I really like this portrait. Only thing that jumps out at me are the "specks" at the center bottom, and up to the left a bit. other than that, great photo!

and PS, tell your dad that some guy from the internet loves his beard :D

Hi and thanks everyone,

those specks of stuff are shavings, he was working a wood lathe and the specks are shavings flying up, however without the lathe they don't belong :)

Thanks for the tip about the ISO, I keep forgetting about it lol that I can up the iso with a button lol.

Thanks for looking

Regards Darren

P.S. BiikeMike I will tell him :)

I'd be proud to have a shot of my father like this. Nice one.

I do however find myself wishing I could see his hands and what it is he's looking at and/or working on. Perhaps this shot would benefit from seeing his hands or the opposite end and zoom in on his face.
