I know your next lens will be the 50 f/1.2 L, but what happened to getting the 200 f/1.8 L ?

Nothing wrong with a zoom especially one as fine as the 24-70..

Zooms have their place when you can't predict what you'll come across. I'm quite an opportunistic shooter, so zooms for me. But when I know what I'll be doing or when I need them, I'll gladly take a prime. Got some nice ones too.. though not as nice as your 300 f/2.8 ;) JUST a puny f/4 IS.... ;)

Enjoy your new zoom!!

I think the moral of the story is that L-choholics should never sell one lens to get another. you want the whole set, right?

Between Ronald's adventures with his 24-70L (I think he's on his 6th), you should know better! I, too, love my primes (nothing like yours, Dante), but they are sharp. I have to have the 24-70 on my 20D while stored because when I have an emergency, and "Camera Lady" has to go out shooting, that's the bag that goes. Zooms do have their place. Last night my son had a pack meeting and we made smores outside just as the sun was setting. I took out my 20D with 24-70L, put ISO at 1600 and shot away. It was great. For events photography, that lens is my favorite. Don't feel sad, Dante. We all have to give in sometimes to zooms.

Back to the dark side of zooms again Dante, wmhahahaha.

The 24-70 2.8 is a lovely lens, very versatile and flexible as you know. I'm amazed you let it go in the first place. I understand the "primes are best" point of view but...

Welcome back, lol

Primes are for when you're in control of the situation. Zooms are for when the situation's in control of you.

In my opinion ;)

Dante,

Good choice for the zoom. You can "shoot the bird" with that beast

This is my first zoom in quite a while too. Must say I am really happy with it so far. Basically it is my walkaround snapshot lens. Although I still prefer the 35 in most cases for walkaround

It seems to be the best event lens out there. I love my 35L too. It has been getting neglected as of late.
