I am looking to purchase a canon 50mm 1.8 mkII lense for my EOS 300D mainly for landscape and architectual purposes, firstly would this lense be a good choice and secondly it has this in the article

"Please note there is a small blister on the inside of the front element bear this in mind when bidding."

Would this effect quality or is it just a scratch on the casing?

Hmm well the lens is about $70 new, without seeing pictures of it its hard to tell exactly what they mean. However it sounds like the problem is a defect in the optics of the lens not the body of the lens. It may be worth a low bid, look at what other lenses of this type went for and base your bid on that.

all the best

bidding on these lenses usually go for around £56 +£10 postage costs, I think this one will go for around £45 +£10 it sounds a bit risque so I might give it a miss... Cheers

i would NOT buy one of these lenses used. they are fragile in comparison to other lenses in the Canon range, and they are so cheap ther eis little benefit to taking the risk, IMO

I certainly would not buy one that was not in perfect condition.

Personally I'd steer clear of it - This lens is cheap new anyway so unless it's going extremely cheap (don't forget to include the P&P rates) walk away, especially as it's not perfect.
Not sure you will be happy with a 50mm on a 1.6x crop body for landscapes - This is the 35mm equivalent of 80mm.

I echo Steve's sentiment. This lens is one I wouldn't pick up on the used market. It's only around 80 bucks, so buy a new one.

I agree with both kev and liza. 50mm on a crop body is not wide enough for landscape. and the price of Nifty is so cheap buy a new one.

I agree, if it's a mkII then buy new.

A mkI is a different story though because obviously it's long discontinued but also they were better put together.

The lens really isnt that much retail, so my bet would be give it a miss as well and just go to a trusted shop :)

50mm is a bit long on the 300D for landscape and architechtural stuff. I'd consider wide or an ultrawide for such shooting. A blister inside the element may affect the optics, so I'd advoid that lens as well.

I'd stay away fom the 50mm Mk2 in general for landscapes. It just isn't very sharp, sharp enough for portraits, but when printing a large landscape shot, the lack of IQ will kill you. Also a 50mm for actitectual shooting is very long. Interiors will be a pain, exteriors can be done, but be prepared to back-up quite a ways.
