How's this for annoying - just opened my newly delivered 300 2.8L IS and 70-200 2.8L IS and BOTH have small defects  The 300 has a smallish dust globule under the front glass and a largish mark (a smudge of some sort?) under the rear glass. The 70-200 has again a largish dust spot under the front glass right in the middle! I've tried cleaning and gently tapping to see if all would move or fall away but no luck! So they're both going back. I know that none of the defects will effect final image quality but when I'm paying out this much cash I want things perfect! Oh well at least the 17-40 I also ordered was ok :)

I'm sure they will take care of the issue post haste! All manufacturers that I've dealt with photo wise are very helpful. QC problems happen!

That's not good at all. I'm with you 100% - if I spend cash on something new, I expect it to be perfect and blemishless.

B&H New York - I've always got all my glass from there as it works out a fair bit cheaper than if I got it from the UK - the only trouble is when things like this happen, now I have to wait until until they receive these faulty ones back before sending out replacements, could be 2 or 3 weeks :(

To make things worse I've just taken a couple of shots with the 300 and a 2x extender...OMG! Sharp sharp sharp!!

Wow...two junked lenses in one order. That's awful. That's when you tell them to arrange for a UPS pickup at their expense, ship the new ones back to you, again free of charge, and then refund you your original shipping cost. That's about the best they'd do, I'm afraid.

Yeah I've had to do this once before and they're (B&H) really good at sorting it out. It's just frustrating because deep down you know that the blemishes won't really effect IQ but once you know they're there it would just bug the hell outta me!

Well hey, you don't pay $4k to have smudged dusty yucky glass. Mine damn well better be absolutely perfect, or I won't be pleased.
