Sharp images and nice colors. You can use some fill flash to soften the shadows. Stick to whatever mode you already set to, and just pop up the flash (if u don't have external flash). If the aperture is blinking when u meter, reduce it to maybe f8 or f11 until it stops blinking. Also, check your FEC, experiment between -1.67 and -0.67.;)

Lovely shots, Damian. Did you use 'bounce' flash?

Thanks Trevor. No flash what-so-ever. Just good old natural sunshine. :)

Thanks everyone. I thought maybe the pigeon had something wrong with its eye, but I looked at some other shots of another pigeon and it has the same shaped iris. Wonder why that is?

Yep your right Damian, looking at my picture they do have a weird shaped iris.

It gives them an expanded view. They can see further forward when in flight, from the looks of it. Something you'd want to be able to do if your eyes were on the sides of your head. ;)

The shape of the pupil will determine the shape and size of the picture that hits the retina at the back. The light going through is still reversed, as we all know, but when the pupil hole is other than round, your going to get a panoramic picture displayed on the retina.

Like a cats eye shape, this gives them a further range in the up and down. They can see things coming at them from above while on the ground, like a hawk or another bigger cat in a tree waiting to pounce, and they can also see further below them, if they are the cat on the limb, waiting to pounce. ;)
