The Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro is aimed at the happy kit lens user who need more reach. It's seems fairly well build for the price £80 and comes complete with a hood.
The zoom ring is smooth and there does not appear to be any creep even when held upside down.
The lens does rotate when zooming.
The focus ring is very small but separate from the front of the lens unlike the canon kit lens, I doubt the expected user base will bother with manual focus very much anyway.
This is not an L lens and focusing is not is the same speed league as a canon 70-200, but is fine for the average user I guess.
IQ is above its price I think but does sharpen up a lot as you move up the f range as can be seen below.
Overall this lens is very good value for the money just don't expect to compete with the top Canon lens.
100% crops shot in jpeg L with a 30D, mirror lock up, shutter cable and tripod mounted. straight out the camera with NO post processing.
