I want that too! ;) But I'm realistic enough to realize it won't happen anytime soon, and during that meantime I might as well enjoy all that I can get. Even if it is just a 350D.

you have a 5D too don't you

Yes, it so happens that I do, and I love the creamy goodness. ;) the 5D's existence however, does not magically de-value all my 350D's work. Lots of favorite shots with the 10-22 on the 350D.

The night shot I posted in this thread was done by this combo though:

Some days I wonder what it would be like to have 45-point AF and 8fps, but I don't lose sleep over it.

This is still one of my favorites though.....

~15,000 frames later it still looks pretty good I must say.

You gotta try the 17-55, its a very very nice lens.

Thanks :) The 350D/17-85 now pulls duty as a slightly-larger-than-normal point and shoot.

Speaking as someone who actually used the 350D enough to encounter its limits and can tell when it misses focus at f/2.8, I'll still say it's a DAMN capable camera. Of course, a 20D/30D/40D is nice. The f/2.8 enhanced-precision AF really matters. I didn't give a damn about it in the past, now that I encounter situations where it makes a difference, I really do care. (5D gives me this capability on 3 sensor points too)

I tried the 17-55 because I initially planned on staying EF-S. I wanted so badly to buy that lens. Actually I still want to buy that lens, in the 'dream setup' threads I specifically include a 30D/17-55. There's nothing in full frame land that is 28-90mm FOV equivalent f/2.8 IS. Nothing. Whoever said "IS is not useful at short focal lengths" has never shot in situations where I've used it to pull off the otherwise impossible.

I am curious about the upcoming 40D. I might be tempted, and then the landslide into 17-55 territory will begin. Ahhhhh......the spirit is willing but the wallet is WEAK!!

You really think Canon will release a 40D at this point. I really think we will see a 1DsMIIN or something first. The 30D is still so new, they wouldn't replace it yet would they

Just speculation on my part. But since there hasn't been an urgent need to upgrade my EF-S system, waiting a couple more days for the official word isn't going to be hard..

Rumor mill says the 40D will sport a new AF engine, that's logical considering the one it had was given to the 400D/XTi which is already in stores. Walked past 'em on Thursday. :D Kinda plausible since the 30D is so new and the 400D sort of encroaches on its territory.

1-series also long overdue for an update. Wouldn't be surprised if DIGIC 3 brings a new 1-series.

Photokina is 26th. Canon sometimes announces just before the show itself, so 24th sounds plausible. Think the 30D and 5D were launched this way too.

Should be interesting. You don't think they have already announced all they are going to announce with the 400D and 50L

We definitely will know in less than a week's time.. as I said it's all rumor until the official press release comes out :)

Sleep well and don't let your 300 roll over onto you  I will wait for the rest of the crew to show up...

Nighty night, I am not sure who gets up first, Peregrin, Ronald, Billingsley or Dante
