ok guys, I'm going to shoot some birds tomorrow, what setting should I use? I was thinking about using 100 iso and f/4 and then set the shutter from there. someone told me that the water in the hummingbird feader was makeing the camera set the white bal wrong. How do I fix this? Thanks Dang I need a 100-400 L

What lens are you using?

I've never heard of this nor had problems. If your truly worried about white balance then usually if a grey card or white card are not available, the palm of your hand in sunlight works quite well as a substitute.

If you're worried about the white balance, shoot RAW and then you can adjust it in PP. If you have a long-ish lens (>200mm) you might want to stop down a little more for the DOF, especially if you are shooting large birds. With small birds, however, f4 should be fine. You may end up needing to up the ISO to higher than 100, depending on the available light.

ok I tried the white paper thing, but it was the death of me when I went into shadows. As far as lens, an old nikon 70-210mm manual focus lens, it's all I have. Yes I usually do shoot in RAW, but my photoshop skills are terrible right now. Reed, it only goes down to f/4, Well i'll be shoot about midday, or whenever feeding time is. Thanks for the replys

Do you mean that that is the smallest the aperature gets (remember, larger number means smaller aperature)? That would surprise me, but then I don't know much about older lenses...
