What does the 1.2m - infintiy button do on the lens? It also lets you choose 3 meters?

The button by the arrow in the photo below.

It's a focus limiter switch so that you can limit the range of focus available to the lens. Then when you hit autofocus and your subject is farther away the lens doesn't waste time focusing up close, and vice versa.

The 1.2m-infinity button enables you to autofocus close objects up to 1.2m. If you shoot farther objects, you can choose 3m-infinity to enhance focusing speed.
