Hi,

I am new to the forums and wondered whether someone could provide me with some advice.

I have been playing around with photography for a couple of years. I do not claim to be any kind of expert. My main focus has been on sports and on shooting my two little nieces.

My current equipment is a 20D and 70-200mm non-IS 2.8.

This setup has worked quite well until now. Love it for my sports shots. The problem I have is my twin nieces who were easy to shoot with a long lens while they were not on the move are now very mobile and active. I know that I need something shorter to include in my bag. I have considered the 24-70 2.8 but I could only afford this if I was prepared to part with my 70-200mm which at this point I am not.

Can anyone make some lens suggestions for me. Basically looking for something that will allow me to snap quality portraits of the dup (see attached).

Thank you in advance.

I am looking forward to learning a lot from you all here. As I said before, I really don't profess to know much of anything about photography. Just point and shoot really so it would be nice to gain some actual knowledge and improve my shots.

50mm 1.4 is a great lens for what you describe. If you want something a bit cheaper, the 1.8 will do an alright job.
