Mr Emjay,

that really really sucks, I feel for you. Well at least if you know whats wrong, you can describe the problem accurately to other support/repair staff. It wont hurt to send them an email explaining the problem and asking for a quote.

Hope that someone can give you a sensible quote

All the best

BearSummer

The place i had it looked at is really an Authorized Canon thing without a question.

Autorized Canon dealer and Canon Service Center are two different things. I would get a quote from the later.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I'd love to see pics of what the lens looks like. I'd also echo the comments about an actual Canon Service Center, rather than an authorized one. And if it was an actual Canon Service Center, then maybe I'd investigate having someone in the USA submitting it to Canon NJ or Canon Irvine for you (since I believe it has to originate from, and have a return address to, a US address).

Best of luck, and I'm really sorry to hear about the lens.
