the pics are very good, but a little busy.. Pretty hard to get good backgounds at a car /bike shows. That bike has some very nice billet work....

Hello, cntry, The Bikes look really good, and the workmanship is great, but all those headless bodies in the background are very distracting.
I would try to single the Bikes out & find angles that eliminate this. Possibly from a closer, higher vantage point, taking quartering shots to fit the Bike into the frame?
A better option, if possible, would be to arrange a one on one session with the Bike's owners.

Thanks all for the comments.
I got a couple offers from this show to shoot some bikes (must be the big white lens).

As for the headless folks I was more concerned with the new camera and settings. I could have asked any of them to roll them out in the open, but then I would have felt pressered to get the shot quicker, thus why I just meandered around trying to make the best of it and learn my new 30D :).

Most of these guys have seen me around taking pictures for the last 5 years, am just now wanting to try it for real. Have about 5 years till retirement and want to be able to run around the country/world shooting bike, cars and possibly some hotties. Have a chance to shoot a new event next month for eastern mag. I am just going to show up and shoot it and show them the results.

Just not sure what to charge and exactly what kind up setup I would need to shoot them. I guess I'll start with a few friends bikes and go from there. Lighting is my biggest worry cause flash makes chrome go crazy.

Most of the mags have bikes shot with shop or outdoors settings. Usually the main shot or centerfold is shot with backrounds in a studio I guess.

So any info ideas etc would be appreciated.

bikerider,
Thanks for the links and reply. Which lens do you use most to shoot bikes? I'm thinking about the 24-70 f/2.8.

that's an excellent lens choice for doing shows and the low wide shots in doing features, also an even wider lens is good to have.....I mostly use my 17-40, 50 1.4 and occasionally the 70-200. Some ideal locations are the tops of hills with blue sky behind, grungy or industrial and water views. As long as the background isn't too busy and the colour compliments the bike you're pretty safe, happy shooting....also I don't use flash at all.
