He observes birds from his car using a spotting scope. So, I was left hand holding at ISO 800 on the 100-400L with the 1.4XTC, f8 at 1/1000th/sec. I tried to reduce noise with smart sharpen--BUT...I now know why I lust for the 30D (or hopefully something newer this fall). Mark

Apparently (according to my birder friend) these are about to fly south to Argentina, but will be replaced with "ruffled" leg hawks coming down from Canada. The process reverses in the spring. You can constantly learn more and more about the movement of birds. Fall/Winter are my favorite birding times for the great variety and often unusual (for the area) species.
