here are some shots from today, not grand shots but thought I would post to show some of our very unique birds.
C and C most welcome.
Regards Darren
Shot 1. The Kookaburra. Our largest kingfisher at 45-50cm (18-22inches), they eat lizards, snakes (including some of Australia's deadliest), and small mammals. They nest in a hollow gum tree or hollow termite mound, and young from previous years help care for young.
Shot 2. Australian Shelducks (mountain ducks) having said that they are never seen in the mountains lol but they do nest in a tall gum tree.
Shot 3. Long billed corella, these are sometimes seen in flocks of 1000's that black out the sun and are so soo noisy. This shot is of the male sitting outside the nest hole, I am going to try and go back to get a shot of the young when they hatch. She is in there now, the entrance hole is smooth.
