check the brand, for $6? you may be burning alot of coasters, make sure to use data verification if it is for anything important.

i have bought office depot 50 spindle of cdr's and most burned coasters.

ive burned so many disks in the last 6+ years that at this point, i find it hard that anyone is making coasters from a certain brand - usually its a PICNIC error - person in chair, not in computer.

burn at a slower speed - its a proven fact music sounds better and data has less chance of going splat if you do so.

don't run other programs while burning... the faster the burner, the more process time it will take

have several times the target blank on your hard drive - if your burning 4gb of data to a disk, have at least 8+ gb free on your hard drive.. this helps in caching.

Sorry mike, often it is not PICNIC error but compatibility between brands and burners, there are some very well know "cheap" disk makers out there selling off disks at very low prices, i have burned more then my share of CD's and DVD's in the last 8 years myself so i know how to burn as well

one example is a spindle of 50 silver faced DVD-r's i got for about $25 a few months back, everything burns fine, but as soon as you do data varification on it - it fails miserably, i have tried about 16 of the disks, and every single one has failed, using 3 diff DVD burners NEC / Lite-On and a Sony.

it is just simply a cheap made disk.

Yes, if you stick to brand names, your likely to not have any errors, but from my experience over the last 2 years of trying "office depot" disks, it is almost a 1:1 ratio of failures on their CDR's.

I usually stick with HP or Verbatim. A tiny bit pricier but few write errors, if ever.

Interesting..I usually stick to name brand disc; however, I bought a pack of the Office Depot Cheapies and every single one burned just fine. It does have a lot to do with burner/media compatability. They burned fine in both my LiteOn and my HP burners.
