Sep 11, 2006 12:09 | #3 Thanks, it was about 30-40 yards away. I looked up some images red shouldered hawks and I think you're right. When viewed from behind, this bird and the red shouldered hawk both share some very distinctive alternating brown/white "checkering".

See what happens when you do a partial PP and then go back to finish it a couple of weeks later? I must have rotated it and forgot. I've rotated the image back in the version below:
To be honest, this image now tells a completely different story. Rather than being the flying hawk that is stretching for a landing, it's now the standing hawk that's trying not to lose it's balance in the heavy wind. I prefer the it the other way...what a difference 90 degrees make!
