Not sure how to tell them apart other than the size of the red patch on their heads and I didn't have time to measure. So sorry Mr or Mrs.

The babies don't get the colourful head until about 2 months old. And - strangely enough they all develop chest patches for the winter.

Adding water to the garden has really brought in a lot more birds - but apologies for the ugly chains.

The second shot looks great. Nice unobstructed view of a very pretty bird. The shot has great details and a unique pose. Exposure is also looks good. Nice work!

Thanks Keith. I was about to swoop down from the fence onto a feeder. I tried to catch a few shoots in mid-air but missed the timing

Very well taken Damian.

I prefer no. 1 myself - it captures something of the nature and habit of the species.

Thanks Keith. Those bushes seem to host all of our local birds - they really like them.

Excellent shots, really like the first one. I only appear to get sparrows and starlings in my garden, would be nice to see some finches.

Hi Simon. What are you feeding them? They love sun flower hearts and niger seeds.

The first two are brilliant. Lot's of contrast, rich colour..

The third, probably not liked as much, with the head being the same as the wood behind, doesn't have as much impact.

Another trick is to get some dried teasels, "plant" them in a pot, and sprinkle nyger seed on the heads.

Lovely shots, by the way, and a fine illustration of why I think Canon is number 1 for bird photography: vibrant but accurate colour, fine detail in the feathers but with a soft touch.

... if you "see" / "feel" what I mean?

Thanks guys.

Rob - I'm getting the hang of the new combo, but I'm still learning.

The tip with the teazels and niger seed is a good one. I spend about £10 a week on seed at the moment! :)
