I took these of my niece while on vacation. She is very shy, but sweet enough to her auntie to pose for a few frames. Would love some feedback.

Thanks!

Hi Tara -

These are both technically nice shots - decent poses and decent light. It's a mixed bag for me, because I like how she looks in the first (the 2nd one doesn't flatter her appearance at all), but I like the post of the 2nd better... sort of a catch 22 I suppose :)

Great job though.

The first one is superbe. I like that through your photo you have conveyed the personality you described- shy and sweet. Everything about the shot says shy & sweet- the lighting, pose, her clothing, and her expression. Whether by accident or on purpose- the way she's gently resting her hed on her hand is delightful. I love it.

I think this shot would also look incredible as a headshot- I hope you don't mind- I had to show you what I mean...

Thank you for the feedback. This is very helpful. I generally only photograph little kids so this was all new for me. I totally froze when I had to give guidance in posing. I know what some of my mistakes were, but not all. I wasn't thinking of what the final image would look like if that makes sense. It's an area I need to work on.

Alan, I like your crop. Thank you for the suggestion.

I went back and edited one more I'd love some feedback on.

Thanks again. This is very helpful. :)

The last one is my favorite. It shows that she is still young, but also growing up. Great shot.

I love that last one! If she were my child, I would like to have that one framed and displayed for everyone to see.

I like the first one also, but the last is awesome.

Great shots, especially the last. She has a great smile and beautiful eyes. You did a wonderful job of capturing her youth and beauty.

The first and last one are great! For a shy girl, she photographs well. Maybe photographs like these will help her there.

I love this shot (#4). Her personality shows through on this shot and the composition looks good.

I think the first two are both great. The colour one works well and comes across as very natural, and I like the balance of light and vertical verticals! I always get my verticals at an angle! The B&W pic is more moody and also works well. Good shots. I like the "fancy" one less.

Justin Keery. 20D, 17-85 IS, 70-300 IS and f1.8 "nifty fifty". OK so I've got the equipment right at last, time to focus entirely on the photography!
