I can't imagine dropping $1200 on a lens - my wife would kill me - or at least take me to the doctor for a checkup of my mental health. At least there are a few good options around $300 or less for us poor folk. I don't own the 'Canon 24-105 f/4 L IS', but do think it would be a great walk around, that is why I voted for it. _________

That kind of reasoning pretty much makes the poll useless then doesn't it? I thought the question was 'what do you use?' not 'what do you wish you were using?' Dave

sugarzebra Cream of the Crop More info | Sep 13, 2006 12:52 | #50 Another vote for the 24-105....longer reach, IS and lighter weight are huge benefits in a walk around lens, well worth giving up one stop for. Its only negative is that its not quite wide enough on a crop body, but its certainly perfect on a FF body. Scott

edrader "I am not the final word" More info | condyk wrote: The only relevance is numbers actually chosing to vote unless there is a specific model that isn't featured but that many people own. The 28-105mm USM was the obvious one. I would say the 24-105mm IS L is best overall walkaround, all things considered, and that is why it is clearly so popular. I voted for the 17-40mm L as that is what I more often use at the moment and the Zeiss 35mm 2.4 or Pentax 50mm 1.4 aren't featured I think those two L's are the best for the job/budget.Maybe the 24-70mm 2.8 L isn't so popular after all ... unless you look on the 'for sale' forums. Or, maybe all those 24-70mm 2.8 L owners are chosing not to vote or something Who know ...the price of the 24-70 has come down in the used market because of the popularity of the 24-105, and i agree that a good copy of the 24-105 is the best walkaround for most people. http://instagram.com/edraderphotography/

I have the EF-S 10-22 Canon on the camera most of the time. The lens that is in second place in my bag is the Canon 70-300mm IS (currently in NJ for the recall/repair), and third is my kit 18-55mm. _________

I guess if I had the 10-22 I would probably be in the same boat. That looks like a fun lens for sure. Dave
