Well it looks like we have a clear winner

Take a bow Mr 24-105 f/4L IS :)

Second by a wisker - 24-70/f2 L

Joint 3rd 17-14 f/4 L and 17-85 f/4.5-5.6 IS EF-S

It was interesting to see that some use the 70-200 range is their walk around

All hail the king :)

17-40 makes a good walkaround on a crop camera. 17-85 is a better crop camera walkaround IMO, thanks to IS and longer reach. Not surprising to see that despite all the whining and griping that these are still popular lenses..

The people have spoken, the 17-85 is as popular as the 24-70L j/k

There really is no 'winner'. As was stated at the outset only one vote was allowed yet we have 1.6 crop, 1.3 crop and full frame cameras all mixed up in unknown proportions. If I was lucky / rich enough to own them all I would probably use different walkabout lenses on each.

Voted for the Tamron 28-75. Actually alternate between it and the 17-85 IS.

I use the Tammy, but would gladly trade it for the 16-35mm f/2.8L ;) Any takers?

Cheers,
Jaime

my 28-135 is almost always on my camera. sometimes I wish it was a little wider, but not too often.

Well I can only vote for what is in my bag obviously. I am very much pleased to walk around with my 17-40 or my 70-200 although somtimes my 70-200 is a little long on my crop body. But for my "general" shooting style the 17-40 suits my needs. I have shot with the 24-70L and it was an amazing lens.

It's a toss-up in my case between the 17-85 and 28-135, but the choice is usually weighted one way or the other if I know in advance that I'll be needing either the wider or longer range. The 17-85 is what's currently attached, though, so I'll just go with that :)

Sigma 24-70 EX DG. I can not say how much I love this lens. So fast, so sharp, no CA.
