I need a wide anlge lens and was leaning towards the canon 10-22, but its a bit pricey.

Is there something out there comparable at a lower cost?

Thanks

yes, the sigma 10-20 is regarded a highly good lens, for a couple hundred less than the canon. comes with a hood too.

I am sure it's out there because I'm sure it been asked befor, is there a thread that directly compares the canon and sigma 10-22. I searched but couldn't locate.

I'm leaning towards the sigma just because of price but if the canon is significanty better .....well.

The sigma is much better value than the Canon - but if you really need the extra 2mm and don't mind spending 20% extra then the canon is excellent - it's just that the sigma is excellent too, comes with a case and a hood, at a significant saving.
when I'm ready for an ultra wide, it will be the sigma.

they're both great lenses.

however i've heard that the sigma seems to have more softness issues and QC issues than the Canon.

or the tokina 12-24...
I was looking at the options recently, and was VERY tempted by the Tok. Think I will go with the 17-40L though as a more all round option.

It's hard to make a bad choice when it comes to the recently released crop-body ultra wides.

Canon 20D w/grip, 300D, Powershot SX100 w/HF-DC1 flash, Canon 70-200 f/2.8L, 85 f/1.8, 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 50 f/1.8, 580EX and some other stuff...

I'm likely buying the Sigma with my first paycheck next month. ...Then comes a Cokin P filter set, battery grip, new backpack, portable storage...etc. :D
