I love how this one turned out and was hoping you could give some cc on it. I was babysitting this girl and she was not shy at all.

I'm a big B&W fan so I like the B&W version. It is obvious that she is not shy. I can see why you are happy with it. What was your source of lighting? I don't know if it is me or what, but the catch light seems blue. Just curious. Good job.

I had my 580 in use but there was some natural light as well.

I don't really know what catchlight is, can you explain?

Pretty shot Sarah. Catchlight is the light reflected in her eyes from your flash. Very desireable because it gives life to the eyes. I can't help but notice the shot has a blue cast to it making it feel a little cold. Perhaps a warmup filter (in ps) would help? Good B&W conversion.

You have image editing OK turned on, so I took the liberty.

I did a very simple curves adjustment as well as levels.

I totally agree, the b&w does it for me too.

Brice I just love how that turned out, can you explain a little more how you did that.

Sarah, sure I can.

She's still a little blue, but it's a start.

I opened a curves adjustment layer. I tuned my shadows, highlights and midtones per a Scott Kelby suggestion. Shadows were set by double clicking on the shadows selector and setting R, G, and B to 20. I saved this and then double clicked on mid tones and set R G and B to 133 each. Highlights were then set to 244 each. Once set these are sticky and you should have to touch them again.

Then I selected the highlight picker and clicked on the whites of her eyes. I selected shadows and clicked on her pupil. You may have to try several locations for the selection to get the desired adjustment. Just pick the blackest element in the picture for shadows and whitest for white. In this case I tried adjusting mid tones with the picker and I didn't like the results. Instead I just grabbed the mid tone on the curve and pulled it straight down.

I then opened a levels adjustment layer and played with midtones until I got something that looked OK on my poorly adjusted LCD.

The lighting is really harsh so I like the B&W better since it benefits from the contrast... just my 2c

Cute capture, the color version's white balance looks alittle off tho.
