I have the Sigma. I've never used the Tamron so I can't speak on it. The Sigma is a great lens. The 24-70mm is a great walk around lens. The build quality is excellent. The AF is a little noisy but it's quick. The Sigma lens is great for the price.

I just got a Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2, and am very pleased with it. Now I am thinking of going for a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro but want to know which ones produce best results Sigma or Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di. As i said my Tammy 70-300 is pretty sharp and good quality.
Can someone provide photos of both lenses to sample please? would appreciate it.
I posted a couple samples myself on Tamron 70-300 so if anybody wants I will place link here

Thanks

Os

There's a great qualitative review by one of the forum members here. Here is the head-to-head comparison of the sigma and tamron: http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/exvdi (external link)

Both perform well but the Tamron appears to have the edge overall. I have the Tamron and it's nothing short of excellent (especially for its price).

i sit just me or does the Sigma feel like it's built like a tank and the Tamron like a pop bottle.
I have a Sigma 18-125mm and recently borrowed a friends Tamron 70-300mm, although i found the Tamron gave decent images it just felt lame in comparison to the Sigma for build quality. It felt like it wouldn't stand up to any accidental knocks aswell as the Sigma.

Any views as I am looking to buy a Sigma or Tamron F2.8 zoom fairly soon.

The Sigma is built well, but the Tamron isn't all that bad. It doesn't feel like "flimsy" plastic as you would find on the kit lens. It's not anything close to something very solid but I would say it kinda meets in between a solid build and a cheap build. Basically the build is "ok" from the way I see it.

BryanP thanks for link
Jenn I'll take your advise, and lucky you nickybegood1998 I'm still deciding which to buy but i think im opting for the Tamron as my 70-300 gives excellent results.
Sm1rf personally if you are the person who takes care of your equipment I wouldn't look so much into build quality but picture quality which is what we alll look in the end.
I was even thinking of buying an L lens and invest in one of them, but after seeing all reviews here have my doubts now, as people say the tamron and sigma even beats the L lens. Hard to believe but apprently true.
Any suggestions on this would be welcomed.

Regards all

Is 28mm wide enough for you on your body? If so, then get the Tamron. If 24mm is more useful to you, get the Sigma. Note that the Tamron is smaller/lighter than the Sigma. Both super lenses for the $.
