If you can get a fast prime like a 85mm f/1.8 or the 1.2L, or the 135 f/2L, they would be much better suited for that kind of photography Photographic Resources

Croasdail making stuff up More info | Sep 14, 2006 05:15 | #10 The shots are pretty small... so it's hard to say. But from what I can see, it looks like the flash was working pretty good for you. If you could post larger examples, that would be great. There are all kinds of ways to soften the flash, and the lens you are using has a very usable range. It just isn't commonly used because in many plances flashes are not allowed. But if it is .... no reason to stop. Being able to go wide under the basket is awsome... the range of your lens is not an issue. Post some larger examples and we can go from there.

The 70-200mm 2.8 also works great. Even with these lenses, sometimes I will bounce the 580 of the ceiling or nearby wall to cut down on direct flash at players.
