Just tried to edit my sig this morning, after editing it last night, found the forum is now saying there is a 500 character limit.

Is this new, or am I having a wacky morning over here? I can shorten mine by taking a link out fairly easily.

I did not that some are getting a little carried away, saw one this morning that was a good 17 lines long!

I counted one that was 23 lines the other day.

I raised this issue in a post about 6 months ago and got soundly thumped for even mentioning it.

I like the idea of the official gear list thread where you can link back your single post there.

I think there has to be a limit placed somewhere. Is 500 the number, should it be lines or characters. Not for me to call but the shorter the signature the better, imo. I would think that 10 lines should be more than adequate.

As always, imo.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

There will be more detailed signature limits very soon because 500 character limit is just not enough. I will try to remove the reason for long sigs (gear lists) with some other stuff soon.

Limiting signatures can only be a good thing, i've noticed a few recently that take a fair amount of screen space and have been really quite distracting. I'm glad to hear you're on top of it Pekka :)

There is no reason to have a long signature. Let your pictures do the talking.

wing dings in my sig?

Yip, I added a simple line "have you calibtated your monitor lately" it is showing as WingDings, or some similar odd script.

Part of the reconfigure?

I've already shortened mine, as I felt it was in the way.

I don't see why there should be more than 3/4 lines and maybe 200 characters..

Even when I once listed my gear, I gave it the small font, and ran in across.. Many seem to list one under each other, and in a large font, with lots of red.

Small fonts are good, maybe that should be automagic?

I don't know if mine's considered long or not (I never counted or tallied anything) but I agree that small font by default might be better than limited to even less than 500 characters.

My opinion (and it's worth what you paid for it) is yours is a little long Mr Ink. Drop the quote by me and it'll be a better length - not that I have anything against that quote or you using it.

No worries. That quote is only temporary. :p

OK now I understand I was steering at your signature wondering why tim was quoted underneath the post, and trying to find the quote in the thread, then I got it, it is part of the signature!

Doh

So then I guess mine is a little long? Normally the big red part isn't there, just trying to get some extra attention to the contest.

Your signature is not bad. When the signature get bigger than the area to the left of the post where the avatar and other information is stored then it is too big.

Some have rediculous long signatures. Anything more than 5-6 lines is way too much in my opinion.

I hate it when people list 1 thing per line... That's when it gets long.
