This is indeed your best shot of the Bearded Reedling Snappa, a perfect pose, lovely colours and fantastic setting for the bird, well done.

Also known as bearded tit, Gary.

Nice shot, John. I'd be interested to see the EXIF.

Keith, Your wish is my command. Aperture priority, Partial metering, f6.3. Now for the sad bit. In my excitement I forgot to change the ISO setting hence it is a whopping 800 ! The shutter speed was therefore also high at 1/2000.
I will get the hang of this one day !

I'm pretty impressed at the total lack of noise on 800iso..

Heh!

I've been caught out more than once by having the wrong ISO setting, John (one good thing about Nikon cameras is their very effective "Auto ISO" option).

As Peregrin says, the noise ain't bad at all for 800 ISO, and would probably clean up a bit more.

It looks a wee bit as if it was under-exposed and then pushed in PP to lift the brightness - if you don't mind, what was the EV setting on the original?

I've a feeling that (if I'm right about the original under-exposure) there's a lot of scope for getting more "pop" and detail out of this one, John.

Keith, At the risk of making myself look a total dumpling what the hell is the EV setting ? The shot is straight out of the camera with one dab of sharpen. I posted another thread with some other piccies of the Bearded Tits and one of them, to me at least, looks too bright as the sun was beating down.
I do prefer this one but have little idea of PP`ing so don`t know how to improve it.
Thank you very much to Gary, Tony, Keith, Peregrin, catsith and last but not least Sindri.
