I shoot football (soccer) and need a short lens... Used for player lineups, team pics, man of the match and general on pitch stuff pre and post game. Currently using a sigma 17-35 f2.8/f4 and its very wide but does tend to lose focus at edges. very hard to focus in low light

Looking to buy a canon L equivelant.. For a 1d mkII and more likely canon 10d as thats my second body. must be short and zoom and f2.8. must be L :)

It's looking like 24-70 L but I will miss the wide I have with the sigma.. are there any other suggestions please?

sounds like you'd prob want the 16-35 2.8L, covers same focal length as your sigma with 1 additional mm on the wide side, and a 2.8 ;)

If not the 16-35, then I suggest the Tamron 17-50 2.8 or Canon 17-55 2.8.

really old lens, was replaced by the 17-35 2.8L, which was replaced by the 16-35 2.8L.

Sometimes the older lenses are better. I ahve seen threads about older L lenses being better than sigma etc. Is the 20-35 L old and rubbish or old and excellent? anyone ? :)
