I was just minding my own business and one day I found POTN. There's lots to learn here. People like Dante, Tim, Cyber, coreypolis, fstopjojo (aka lightrules), wedding shooter, cdi-ink, curtisN, *bill, jamiewexler and more have just ruined me. Yes it's happened, and I blame you all.

I purchased the Canon 70-200L IS.

Now to all those mentioned above, thanks. You help peak my interest to go even see what L was all about.

To all those reading that don't know about L. I recommend the following.

1. Do not ask what it is.
2. Do not think about it.
3. Do not put one on your camera.
4. (this is the most important one) DO NOT LOOK THROUGH THE VIEWFINDER AND TAKE A PICTURE with one.

If you heed my instruction you will be safe.

Thanks Guys and Gals for all your input over the last 6-9 months, I have finally saved the money and can't wait. In fact I ordered just as soon as I had the money. I don't even have enough to speed the shipment.

I already know I'm cursed, and I don't even have any lenses yet.

Gonna go something like this

Some decent starting lens like a Tamron 24-70
A decent telephoto starting lens like the sigma 70-300 APO or tamron 70-300 macro
A decent flash 430ex

Then it'll turn into
A bunch of prime lenses and L series lenses with a 580ex.

LOL.

Make sure to give us some good sample shots!

Boy do I understand that. Yeap! Just keep your eye on the prize. Have garage sales. Do what ever it takes. Me I started by doing an environmental portrait for a friend. She loved it, showed her friend, who was quite upset because she paid $350us for inferior work.

I first purchased a sigma 24-70EX and used it to earn other things. I now need a business card because people are starting to call me often. Since I have about a dozen weddings under my belt as a second, I decided to go that direction also. I'm in training for this, as I'm moving from Bronica medium format to digital 1.6 crop Canon. Although its still the same, with the exception that I do not need a tripod as much.

From my post just above, this could work. You can use your hobby to help out. I did.

Thanks AKA Lightrules.
I should thank you the most. Your Lens test page has been great. I was going to get the Canon 24-70L, but from your tests I was confortable getting the Sigma. The canon is superior to MF and its hood configuration, and silent operation. But the money I saved got me almost half way to the portrait king (70-200L).

It takes this long because the camera has to earn its way. My lovely wife is willing to let me spend the earnings from the camera for new toys. Works for me but takes time.

What's so funny is out of my 4 ultimate lenses, only one would be an L.

EF 50mm f/1.4 (Have it)
EF-S 10-20mm
EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS (Have it)
EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS

So while I do want the one L that I don't have, I don't have L fever, I have Canon Fever.

What I use? A 350D and 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, 99% of the time.
(Well...I did just get the 70-200mm 2.8 IS, so lets see that 99% go down)
