Being a member of this forum and looking though some picture and equipement talk, I have finally surrended.

Just recently on my trip to Washington DC i was offered new
24-70 f/2.8 L and 70-200 f/2.8 L IS for 2500$

Both brand new boxed and with warranty
Could not take it anymore and took a plunge :)

And my rebelxt finally started performing like a real camera, the quality and colors is just amaizing. Before i had sigma 18-200, ehh what a difference

So be carefull out here :)

Yes i am very excited :)
The story was actually funny, i will keep the store name out, but will share details.

So i come in into the store and 3 guys are arguing with the guy at the counter to give them 30$ off some $200 lens. I asked for 24-70 he gave me a lens and said somewhere around 1.1K, then I asked for 70-200 IS he said yes we have it

At that point he asked those guys to move somewhere and make a decision about their purchase.

I am asking for the price, he says it's 2900 +tax
I tested both lenses and first time they bought me 70-200 non IS, I asked for IS version and tested it

I told him i can spend 2500$, i guess it was really slow week for them, so after 15 minutes of arguing we agreed to that price. BUT tax was still an issue.
So i pull out my European passport, (i live in New York but not a citizen) he says, fine I will not charge a tax

At that point i could not pass
Go figure, negotiations sometimes pay off

you can get the same lens config from BH (psaug) for $2700. No tax. Buying from local with tax comes out the same. :)

So you can get away on tax with your European passport but for us, it's not that crazy compare to BH. :)

welcome to the "L" world. :)

Bubble,

the fact that i bought new L glass does not mean i am newcomer,
I did my research

with (psaug) US versions with warranty 70-200 $1600 + 24-70 $1100 plus in New York 8.5% tax ($230)
Comes to $2930 total from B&H

I am not a fan of bying expensive lenses online without testing and then spend more time exchanging or fixing those

Anyway savings of about $430 are good enough to make me happy :)

An excellent deal on those two excellent lenses.
I trust you will declare them for the purpose of import duty and tax application upon return to your country of origin.;)
