Is there an alternative to the ST-E2? It seems silly to pay that much for a ETTL wireless trigger when for just $20 more I could buy another EF-500 Super and use it as a wireless master.

After searching the forums it seems like everyone who went the Sigma route for flashes just ended up buying another SUPER for a wireless master. Any additional flashes I buy I'd rather be using off camera. Gah, I see a box of 500 Supers and STs at my doorstep in the near future.

A cheap alternative would be keen.

(20D body, BTW)

There is reason to why someone would want a ST-E2 rather then use another flash. One is it will provide focus assist without having a flash firing from on top off the camera where it is not desirable. In case of other wireless setup it retains ettl compatability.

There is other option such as Pocket Wizard.

If you have an existing Sigma flash then another Sigma would be a great idea. I've heard (from quite a few sources) that mixing Canon and Sigma is a recipe for a headache. Myself I have a 430EX, so that basically demands I buy an ST-E2 rather than a Sigma flash.

And the big post about:

Some people are reporting better results with this one:

The only problem with the 16 channel model is the lack of a hot shoe adapter. But you can find a cheap one in eBay.
