Tried the 70-200/4 - marvellous lens for the price and considered keeping it, but as an ex-Nikonian I'd been spoilt by the superb Nikkor 70-200/2.8 VR. Today brought me this as a replacement:

Plenty of time for that with several jobs coming up in the next weeks.

Very nice - I've rented the same lens a couple of times from London Camera Exchange in Southampton (I live about half-way between Soton and Winchester) and it's insanely good - as a rank amateur like me, it does a truly miraculous job of giving me outstanding photographs, even when operated by a complete muppet!

Now get out there and show me what it can really do!

Enjoy the lens, Radiohead. It is supposed to be Canon's finest PJ type lens - how does it compare with the Nikon version?

I'd say they're so close as to be almost identical Steve. The Nikkor is a little slimmer but longer. Both are superbly built and both get me very usable shots at around 1/30s at 200m.

Tasty! I got to play with one on a 1D IIN this afternoon - briefly. Lovely combination, perfectly balanced and....hell, where's that credit card....?*&*!
