hey that right, I typed in the wrong lens. Cross pollination from different threads.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

So, it seems that these 70-210 lenses are all at least 15 years old. My question now is am i better off getting a canon 70-300 which is newer or an older 210mm lens. Keep in mind that i am still very new to photography, trying to stay on a budget, and have a canon digital rebel which i mostly take wildlife, scenery among other things. If anyone has any suggestions on better lenses which are afordable that would be helpful too. Thanks

The canon 70-300 IS ia a good lens but some copys are soft when turned vertivally. The canon 75-300's, all 3 versions (plain, USM, IS USM) are considered pretty crappy image wise. plus they use the micro-usm and its not as fast or silent as the ring type. The 70-210 f3.5-4.5 were marketed in June 1990.

if you don't mind missing out on the 211-300mm range, then i would recommend the ef 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 due to the faster aperture range.

unless you do want the range and IS from the ef 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS. and the vetical problem should be solved by now if you get a new copy.

but whatever you do, stay clear from the ef 75-300mms, whatever varient!

so, what is it about the 75-300mm that is not good, and is this the same lens that canon makes that comes in plain, usm, and is usm? And, are you saying that a 15 year old 70-210 is better??
