Just received my new 10-22. it is the last of the lenses I need for my 30d since I now have 10-22, 17-55 IS 2.8, 70-200 L IS 2.8. I have a couple primes, but as far as coverage goes, they are 50 and 85.

I will let you know how it goes.

Nice one. and I'm sure your lens collection is pretty rounded - but give it time and you'll evolve a bit and something new will come along!

Enjoy!

Yeah, very nice setup.

How did you choose that lens over say the Sigma 10-20 or Tokina 12-24? I'm leaning towards the Sigma myself, believing that all 3 are very close in quality but the Sigma is less expensive.

Nice setup there. I have 3 desks in my home I work from. Your desk is clean compared to my 3. I was considering a wider lens than my 17-40, but with the 5D coming, hopefully, can't do it!

Your lens collection is better than mine! I'm jealous. The 85 and 50 are being used less this summer, but they are still my favorites. Primes are really fantastic. I wish I had more opportunities to use them.

My children and grandchildren are the reason, but it's the passion that drives me to get the perfect image of everything.

I know for a fact the Sigma 10-20 (don't know about the Canon) won't work on the 5D (It will work, but will be all distorted). This lens was designed for a 1.6x camera. On your 5D, my 10-20 1.6x would be equivalent to 16-32 FF. So you pretty much have that range covered with your 17-40. Good luck with the 5D!

Tracer bullet - I only use Canon lenses, that is why I chose a Canon over the other manufacturers. I have had no problems with any of the Canon lenses so far (4 lenses used before buying this one) and know that there is no question as to compatibility and build quality. I read up a bit on this lense at this website: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/ (external link) and saw that it is everything but an L. It internally focuses, therefore minimizing the chance for dust, will reach f29 at the high end (I consider this useful because on landscapes, which is one of the greatest uses for this lens, you can get just about everything rather detailed), and it is very light and excellent on the build quality. I took a few pics this weekend and am nothing short of astonished as to the wonderful view angle the 10mm pics up (i.e. 16mm on 1.6x crop like the 30d I have). If the other manufacturers can make a comparable lens and the pics are comparable, you should be fine with those, but I just wait to get the Canon lenses because there is no question as to compatibility and performance, in my opinion.

To everyone, thanks for your encouragement and I will post a pic or two shortly. Thanks.

By the way, now that I can get a field of view like this on a lens (i.e. 16mm at FF), I am in heaven. I should have gotten this lens two or three ago. Really the only reason I use the primes is when I am pretty much stationary and need a bit lighter outfit (a 70-200 is heavy if you don't need the 100-200 range for a shoot).
