Here's a couple of shots of a male Superb Blue Wren. Fortunately, the male and female were nesting nearby. This enabled me to stand close and still where they came within 2-3 metres of me. One of my favourite small birds. They flitter around so much that you take what ever shots you can get. Sorry about the over exposure on the lump of limestone.

I can see why he's one of your favourite little birds. Pretty thing.
I really like that second shot except, as you say, for the blown rock. Did you shoot raw by any chance. You might be able to recover some of it.

BTW, how do you tell it's a male?

Thanks Nick. No not shot in RAW unfortunately. I'm still getting used to (playing with) the camera as its relatively new. I used to shoot only RAW with my Fuji but the 350D is a huge learning curve compared to that.

The male, as with most species of birds is usually the most colourful, The female Superb Blue is plain old buff colour all over, much the same as the males wing colour. They both have the blue tinged tail though.

These are very pretty and colourful birds, nice to see them posted. The second shot in particular is superb with the tail at it's highest a typical good shot of the wren, good close up, nice detail and very good colour, well done.
